Counseling For Emotional Health
What is emotional health? When I refer to emotional health, I am referring to an individual’s ability to recognize their own emotions and learn how to successfully manage them. The terms emotional intelligence and emotion regulation are also used to describe this work.
Often, clients will tell me the following:
- They feel that their emotions are “out of control”
- They are on a “roller coaster” of emotions
- They tend to “bottle up” their emotions until it eventually comes out
- They do not know what their emotions are or how to express them
Over time, these issues can impact your well-being and impact the relationships around you. When your emotions are dysregulated, or out of control, you may need a little help getting back on track. In therapy, I work with individuals to learn how to identify their emotions, understand the purpose of emotions, and regulate their emotions to reduce any suffering. A common misconception or stigma around emotions is that they are “bad” to experience and should be eliminated. I am here to tell you that it is not only normal to have emotions, but it is healthy and encouraged to work through the emotions you do have.
We can work together to identify what changes need to be made in order for you to decrease any painful emotions and increase positive ones.
